Hamilton, ON

AFFORDABLE HOUSING  //  INSTITUTIONAL

Carole Anne’s Place, a vital new women’s drop-in center, is housed within the downtown YWCA Hamilton. Formerly a large pool room and changing area accessed from Jackson Street, this newly redesigned, bright space will accommodate 25 women for overnight stays and serve many more through its day program, operating from 10 p.m. to 1 p.m. daily. A standout feature of the center is the stunning murals by local artist Kayla Whitney.

The center is open to women and gender-diverse individuals and provides comprehensive on-site services, including harm reduction, health services with nurses and a doctor, and housing support. YWCA Hamilton is dedicated to amplifying women’s and girls’ voices, expanding their opportunities, fostering dynamic leadership, and delivering crucial services to create safe, inclusive, and equitable communities.

SDG concentrated on enhancing the front entranceway and streetscape in front of the building. The new design features vibrant and distinctive planting boxes that complement the building’s façade. These upgrades are designed to create a welcoming and accessible environment, support the goals of sustainable cities and communities, and promote inclusivity and equity. SDG is excited to collaborate with YWCA Hamilton in advancing their mission to build a more equitable Hamilton for women and girls.
