SDG was retained by the Toronto Metropolitan University to design and implement a living green wall at the entrance of the Sheldon & Tracy Levy Student learning Centre (SLC). SDG focused on the lighting, irrigation and drainage systems to ensure the new plants thrived in Canada’s harsh weather conditions. This complex system of passive green roofing lowers the building’s energy consumption and alleviates the ‘heat island effect’ within the surrounding area. The living wall and roof system begins at the main entrance of the SLC building, extending along the entire length of Yonge Street and continuing around the northern end of the building. The green roof infrastructure on the ground floor covers a total of 2,500 square feet.
