Art. History. Gardens. Wine. Romance. From Giverny, France, to Niagara-on-the-Lake, the two worlds are brought together by gardens created by SDG inspired by French impressionist artist Claude Monet. The architecture summons you to walk under its arch or over a bridge presenting a sophisticated experience. Walking the Pillar and Post site gives the impression that you are meandering around Monet’s painter’s palette over a century ago. Colour, texture, water, harmony, tone, and composition are cherished as you sense the place and explore the space.

SDG was retained by Vintage Hotels to design a new six-acre park and event space at the Pillar and Post in Niagara-on-the-Lake.  The ‘Gardens’ will be located directly south of the current inn and spa and will be bordered by John Street, Regent Street, Anne Street, and King Street. Our landscape architectural team, worked in conjunction with the architect, engineer, lighting and acoustical consultant to design the Monet-inspired Garden space. The space will include paved pathways, lily ponds complete with a pedestrian bridge, lawn spaces for events, a new event building, vegetable gardens, water features that will double as a skating rink, site amenities and furnishings, and lighting. The new space will also host the Vintage Hotel offices and will include a decorative stone wall around the park to allow for public and private access during events.

Inspired by Monet’s gardens in Giverny, France, this park space features 21,000 square feet of gardens filled with trees, shrubs, and seasonal flowers, beautiful lighting, and stunning water features. Located directly across from the hotel, with a stunning promenade as the entrance the Gardens are comprised of three scenic outdoor ceremony spaces that can accommodate from 60 to 160 people. The Gardens also includes the traditional post & beam construction Barn which can accommodate up to 80 people for receptions.
