Modern Residential Design

An inground pool in Oakville, Ontario, features clean lines for a sophisticated look. Although this backyard in Oakville, Ontario, was small, with an elevation change of 1.2 m (4 ft.), the owner had big dreams for the property and wanted something that made a statement. To this end, Seferian Design Group of Burlington, Ontario, which designed the project, along with Oasis Pools Ltd., of Burlington, Ontario, which built the pool, spa and decking, created a pool with elevated walls on three sides to create upper and lower spaces. As the design evolved, a proposed acrylic hot tub was eliminated in favour of a gunite spa attached to the pool, which required less space and complemented the clean flowing lines of the pool. The raised walls of the gunite pool are finished in micron black porcelain tile and all pool and spa coping is made from concrete in a square format that is finished in segments to look like natural limestone.

Pool & Spa
The pool features wide elegant stairs in the shallow area, a loveseat in the deep area, with a 1.8 m (6 ft.) ‘Sheer Descent’ waterfall sending water out of a raised wall and three mini-jets in the shallow area creating a fun area for children to play in. This natural limestone look is echoed in the patio design, as well as in the formed and poured concrete curbs at the rear of the property that function as a retaining wall. Part of the deck is also made of interlock stone, which acts as the floor for a rustic looking wooden pergola that is designed as a shaded sitting area.

Assisting in the project were Country Estates Landscaping (interlock and planting); and Woodfield Carpentry (pergola and cabana).

This project was a Sapphire Award Winner: Residential Inground Concrete Pool – Small Backyard – Category 3.
