Landscape Ontario, Certified Landscape Designer Manual

Landscape Ontario, Certified Landscape Designer Manual

In early April 2013, Landscape Ontario in conjunction with Canadian Nursery Landscape Association completed the first-ever Landscape Design Manual for their Certified Landscape Designer program. Haig Seferian of Seferian Design Group was a contributing editor to the manual offering insight into landscape architectural systems, photographs of completed works, and expertise.

The publishing of the landscape design manual represents the culmination of an enormous amount of effort by a great many people over an extended period of time. However, this is just the first step. The first edition of what purports to be a guide for all those landscape designers who aspire to become certified landscape designers/landscape industry certified designers.

This publication is in no ways, a be-all and end-all dissertation on landscape design. Given the apparent current trend to mandatory certification/control and a generally growing market, the manual attempts to point the perspective certified designers in a meaningful direction when it comes to achieving certification. In that light, the contents are geared to not only residential landscape design, but also to associated basic current knowledge of applicable landscape construction materials, grading and drainage concerns, both verbal and graphic communication, the basic plant/soil relationship, and lastly to the successful and ethical operation of a landscape design business.

Finally, and as intimated previously, this landscape design manual is not to be deemed a definitive reference for all things related to residential landscape design. The reader is strongly directed to seek out other pertinent references: there are many excellent and worthwhile publications available today.
